The Milky Way seen from outside

A small studio with a very big subject.

StarBrains makes space and science videos for curious kids and the grown-ups around them.

Why scale

Numbers like "1.3 million Earths" don't mean much on their own. So we build the thing and show it to you: Jupiter hanging over a city, the Sun poured full of Earths, a zoom from a quark to the oldest light we can see.

Every video asks one question you could ask at dinner, and answers it with a picture you'll remember.

A strand of DNA rendered in glowing blue and violet

And all the way down.

DNA built from real Protein Data Bank structures, rendered here.

How it's made

Rendered on our own machines
Blender and Unreal Engine on a small farm of graphics cards, up to 4K. No stock footage and no generated space art.
Built from real data
NASA maps of Earth and the planets, star catalogues, galaxy surveys and molecule structures. Every video page lists its sources.
Checked and labelled
When we go past what science knows, like bubble universes, we say so on screen.
Made to be watched by everyone
Captions on every video and chapters on the long ones.

What's coming

Next up is Made of Stardust: where the atoms in your hand were made. After that, more big questions, more Shorts, and a few sillier experiments.
